Hey everyone! Im doing the science fair again! Im redoing the one I did in fifth grade. The same Airplane fold one! I just presented to the judges! Hope I make it to the next round!

Science fair award ceremonies

Hey everyone! Just a quick science fair update! I went to the award ceremony on Firday because I won an award! I won honorable mention and got a cool dog tag! To sum it all up they gave me a little neclace and said "Good Job!" to me. =I -Rylan

Science fair!!!

Tomorow me and dad go to set up the project! I couldn't wait to post the pictures on friday so im posting them today!

Question - Do distractions, like video games, affect a person response time to pain?

Hypothisis - I belive that the time in the water will be greater with distractions.

Experiment - I took 10 people and tested them. My subjects put their feet in ice cold water without any distractions, and I timed them to see how long they could withstand it. After they took their foot out I stoped the timer, let them play mario cart, and wrote down their time. After five minutes of them playing games I sneakily put their feet back in the water and timed them while they were playing their game.

Conclusion -

I learned my hypothisis was correct. I found the difference between the two times was 53 seconds.

Science fair update!!!

Sorry I haven't uptadet the blog in a while! Anyway I would like to Let you all know....I Made it into state for the science fair!!!! Im so excited! Not only because I get to miss a day of school, >=D, But Very limited people get into State!!! The state science fair will be held this thursday. After then I will post what i did for it, and all the things that happened there!

MRI Update

Above is a photo of 2 MRI's. The images on the LEFT were taken on 8/16/2010 and the ones on the RIGHT were taken on 1/6/2010. What a difference. It looks like no sign of regrowth in the tumor. Click on the photo to enlarge it on your screen!

Dr. Webber, the Radiologist that viewed the film felt that it was not recurring.


Rylan has to make a follow-up with his surgeon in the next couple of weeks. We'll post how that goes.

It started to rain rather hard in the evening, and the boys, Rylan included, learned that we were serious about keeping the tents fully zipped up. There were many wet sleeping bags among the boys!

Science fair UPDATE!!!

Sadly enough i didn't make it into the state science fair =,( so many people loved it but there were just some better than mine. I just wanted to tell all of you that i didn't make it. So there aren't gana be any more updates for the science fair =I

4 Week Follow-Up

It's hard to believe that it's time for a 4-Week follow-up visit! It seems just yesterday that he was puking all over his room at the hospital after walking for the first time! :)

Shelly and Ry went back to Primary Children's Hospital to meet with his Doctor.

Lunch was had at the cafeteria, and both Rylan and Shelly RAVED about how good the pork chop lunch was.



In the waiting room, Rylan was playing with the "Bead Toy" that you find in every Doctor's Office waiting room, however he put the Rylan Twist on it by putting his play to music. Mary Had A Little Lamb was the soundtrack for the performance.


Once he finally got called into the exam room, he got do don the "Stylin' Shorts" once again.


Dr. Randall came in and gave Shelly the pathology report, it wasn't cancerous, so that's the good news.


He wants Ry to get an MRI every 6 months for the next little while. Looks like Ry's going to be just fine.

Science Fair Update

We learned on Thursday afternoon that Rylan's project was selected to be judged by an outside panel on Friday. So, we reviewed his information that evening, practiced a mock interview, and hoped for the best.

He got all dressed up and was fully ready to meet the judges.I thought he looked rather sharp in my tie!

Rylan felt really good about the interview with the judges, but won't find out if he's moving on until next week or so.

Science Fair

I think the parents should get a grade for science fair projects, it seems I spent a whole lot more time than Rylan did on getting this done.
"Do The Number Of Folds In A Paper Airplane Affect The Distance That It Will Travel?"

HYPOTHESIS:
Paper Airplanes created with a larger number of folds will have a decrease in the amount of distance they will travel.

To do this project we folded 6 planes in different ways, from 5 to 10 folds. Then went to the curch to fly them and see how far each plane would travel on an average.

Once we got the data we assembled a report on the experiment and what he had learned about planes.

Tape Removal

Friday night was "Tape Removal" night. A week later, it was time for the tape over the incision to come off. The loose tape had been driving Rylan nuts!




He's gonna have a pretty gnarly scar to impress the chicks later on!

Back to school....

Today I went back to school ^_^ it wasn't the funnest day ever but it was the best school day. I had a lot of fun and saw all of my friends. The BEST part of the day was that it was SO short!!! I had quite a few people, some that I've never seen before, keep bugging me and asking whats wrong, by the end of the day it drove me NUTS!!!! School was better than i thought it would be and was really FUN!!

The Photos Say It All!

Coming Home!

Gotta love a quick visit to the hospital!

The doctor came in early on Friday to see how Rylan was doing, talk about the surgery, remove the drain in his leg, and get him ready to be discharged. Apparently they need the beds for kids who actually needed to be there.

Since I (Dad) wasn't there at the time, here's Rylan's take on the conversation:

"He didn't tell me much. All I remember is that he told me that it (the growth) was the size of a tennis ball, and that I'd need four weeks on crutches."

As for the removal of the drain in his leg, Rylan described it as this:
"It Was PAINFUL!"

Shelly remembers the info as this:
"They made a 4 inch incision to remove the growth; He said that it was the size of a tennis ball. We're still waiting for the results from pathology, because the results didn't come right back, we're assuming that is a good sign. Rylan'll need 4 weeks on crutches, with a 6-8 total recovery time. Rylan will be out of school for 10 days.

He got most of it out, but there is still a small chance that it will grow back, and that will have to be addressed if it becomes a problem in the future."

Shelly called me just before 8AM to tell me that Rylan was cleared to go home. I was amazed, and happy, that he was being discharged so early.

I got to the hospital as soon as possible to get Ry and Shelly home.

When I got there, I found both Rylan and Shelly in the beds they had tried to sleep in for the night.

They both had a pretty rough night. Shelly said they couldn't get much sleep for a few reasons:

• Rylan had to get up and go potty every couple of hours
• The Nurses came to get his vital signs every couple hours (these hours tended not to be the same time)
• There was some kid crying the whole night
• The beds, especially the fold out chair, are not that comfortable.

Rylan must have a killer pain tolerance, he only took a pain pill in the morning because the nurse made him. He was just anxious to get out of the hospital and head home!


He got to take a ride in a funky looking wheel chair with a cute chauffeur.


But he was VERY Happy to be in the Durango headed for home!

It didn't take too long into the ride home for him to crash! I loved his creative use of crutches!


Once we got home, he took No time to try and be as independent as possible, wanting NO help from dad to get into the house.


He got to his room to see that it had been decorated by Kylee and the Loertsher's.


Before finally getting to crash in his own comfie bed!


We were also lucky to have our great friend and neighbor Jenny make us a yummy enchilada dinner with some fantastic Lemon Bars. Thanks SOOOO Much!!!
